Fall Maintenance for Your Home's Exterior

Oct 21, 2023

The weather's finally starting to turn, and so are the leaves across Greater Boston. Between your leaf peeping, apple picking, and pumpkin carving, make sure you give yourself some time for fall home maintenance. Here are a few ways you can get the exterior of your home ready for the colder months.

Clean Out Your Gutters

Your gutters are an important part of your home's exterior. They move water away from your home's siding and foundation to prevent water damage. However, gutters cannot do their job if they are full of leaves and other debris. This is why you should put your gutters on your fall maintenance list. Take an afternoon to safely get up on the ladder and clear out your gutters. If you're not comfortable climbing a ladder, hire a gutter cleaning company to complete the job for you.

Inspect and Clean Your Windows and Doors

Once your gutters are clean, take a look at your windows, doors, and surrounding trim. Clean your window panes and take care of rotten, peeling, or faded trim. You may also wish to add some weather-stripping to your windows and doors to keep out drafts over the winter.

Check Your Roof or Siding

Once you've cleaned your gutters and taken care of your windows and doors, take a look at the condition of your roof and siding. If you discover during fall maintenance that your roof or siding require repairs or replacement, there's still time to get on our schedule. We replace roofs and siding through the fall.
